Caliper Size to Height Reference

Shade trees are typically sold by caliper, which measures the trunk diameter approximately six inches above the ground. The chart below provides  approximate tree heights by caliper size. Actual height varies by variety and growing conditions.

• 2-inch Caliper: approximately 10-12 feettall
• 3-inchCaliper: approximately 14-16 feet tall
• 4-inch Caliper: approximately 16-18 feet tall
• 5-inch Caliper: approximately 18-20 feet tall
